Speaking of Fibers 2019! is a Missouri Fiber Artists (MoFA) members’ biennial; juried exhibit, exploring fiber forms and materials. Our 2019 exhibit theme is “Stories of Importance ”.
To encourage the Voice of Fiber Arts, all works for this show must be connected to the theme “Stories of Importance”. What has made a profound difference in your life and in the lives of those around you? Be inspired by a story that has changed your community or our world? Think how Native Americans have burned prairie grass for millennia, or how decisions by politicians affect our everyday lives.
Artists’ statements, 300 characters for each artwork are to be submitted, in order to add to the juror’s understanding of your artwork. An Artist’s Statement is a narrative about your work, not a description of your work.
We are pleased to announce Fran Gardner will be our speaker, juror and workshop leader for MoFA Speaking of Fibers 2019! Stories of Importance. Fran is a fiber collage artist well known for her media collage. She paints and draws with traditional materials, but also with the sewing machine, layering her work with rich texture, color, and mark-making.
Fran Gardner is an educator USCL Lancaster, University of South Carolina and a studio fiber artist. Gardner holds a BFA from Columbia College, and an MFA from Vermont College, Norwich University. Gardner has won a variety of awards in competitive exhibits both statewide and nationally. In addition, she has exhibited at numerous art centers and museums including the Florida Museum for Women Artists in Deland, Florida. Fran Gardner BIO
