Collaborative work from nearly 80 fiber artists across Missouri, Illinois and Canada will be the focus of an exhibition to premiere in St. Louis and travel to mid-Missouri this fall. Sponsored by Missouri Fiber Artists (MoFA), the show is titled “Pairings.” It will open at the St. Louis Artists’ Guild in Clayton, MO, September 11 and run through October 18. A Pairings Pop-Up Shop, featuring a wide array of handmade items from the artists, will open on September 11 and remain open throughout the show.
Subsequently, Pairings will travel to the Mildred M. Cox Gallery at William Woods University, Fulton, MO, where the work will be exhibited throughout November.
The Pairings exhibit is the culmination of a year-long collaboration that began in July 2014, in which fiber artists paired up (two or more artists per pair) to visit each other’s studios, talk about their art, and become familiar with each other’s artwork. Pairs were challenged to create one collaborative piece, and each member of the pair was asked to create an individual piece to reflect the influence of the collaboration. More than 100 works of art will be on display in both venues.

Missouri Fiber Artists is a not-for-profit volunteer organization that creates community among and opportunities for fiber artists, whose work is created primarily from natural or synthetic fibers, including textiles, fabrics, paper, reed, yarn, thread, and more. The work often is intended to have meaning that goes beyond the materials.
